Barcelona in April: how much does a family trip cost?
Every expense itemised for 2 adults and 2 children, from flights to artisan ice cream
How much does a 4-day Barcelona trip in April cost for a family of four? The answer swings widely depending on where you sleep and eat, but April has one big advantage: it is still shoulder season. Flights from London are 30 to 40 per cent cheaper than in July, hotels keep their rates sensible and the attractions have not yet switched to peak-season mode.
This budget guide breaks down every spending category for a family of four (2 adults + 2 children aged 6 and 10). You will find three tiers: budget (watching every euro without missing out), mid-range (a good balance of comfort and value) and premium (treating yourselves). All prices are in euros, verified for April 2026.
The good news is that Barcelona is one of Europe's most wallet-friendly major cities for families. Most museums are free for under-16s, the metro is cheap with a Hola BCN pass, and solid meals can be had for 10 to 15 EUR a head in local neighbourhoods such as Gràcia and Born.
One important tip: book your flights at least six weeks out. In April, prices spike around the Easter break and the Sant Jordi bank holiday (23 April). The same Vueling flight that costs 40 EUR one-way when booked early can climb to 130 EUR a week before departure. Tuesdays and Wednesdays are consistently the cheapest days to fly.

💡 Money-saving tips
Book flights 6 weeks ahead: prices double around Easter and the Sant Jordi bank holiday.
Buy the Hola BCN pass online (5% discount) rather than at the airport machines.
Take advantage of free museum Sundays on the first Sunday of the month (Picasso Museum, MNAC, History Museum).
Eat lunch at the covered markets (Santa Caterina, Concepció): a full meal for 8-12 EUR per person.
Fill a water bottle at Barcelona's public fountains: the tap water is safe and free across the city.
Pick restaurants in Gràcia and Born: 30-40% cheaper than the touristy parts of the Eixample.
