Family Hotels in Annecy with Lake Access

5 family-friendly hotels with beach access in Annecy . Handpicked for families who want the best.

Lake Annecy is the cleanest large lake in Europe, and that's not marketing — Swiss-grade water testing has put it at the top of every list since 1980. For families with kids, that translates into 27 degree summer swimming, no jellyfish ever, and a ring road of sand-and-pebble beaches around the lake's 14-kilometre length. The five hotels we've selected sit either on the lake's western edge in Annecy itself or a short walk from one of three official municipal beaches: Plage d'Albigny, Marquisats, and Plage de l'Impérial. All five offer waterfront pools, direct lake-swim access by 5pm even in July, and family rooms that don't require a 4-star markup.

Annecy is the lake town France saved from concrete development. The old town's canals run through medieval arcades, the Pâquier — a public lawn the size of three football pitches — backs onto a sand beach, and the surrounding mountains keep the peak at a manageable 22 degrees even in August. It's smaller than Lake Como (the lake takes 90 minutes to drive around versus three hours), and the ratio of family hotels to bachelor party traffic is solidly in your favour.

🏖️Why Lake Annecy works as a family beach holiday

The five hotels here each handle the lake-access question differently. Impérial Palace is the iconic 1913 grand hotel sitting directly on its own private beach (Plage de l'Impérial) — pay-once-stay-once for the week and your kids never have to be ferried anywhere. Rivage Hôtel & Spa is on the eastern lakefront with a heated outdoor pool 10 metres from a swimming pontoon; the family-friendly trade is its weekday speciality. Le Splendid Hotel Lac d'Annecy sits 200 metres from Plage des Marquisats with a fenced rooftop pool that toddlers can't escape from.

Les Trésoms is the hilltop option, on a wooded hillside with a 600-metre forest trail down to the lake — best for families with older kids who can manage the walk back uphill. Hotel des Marquisats covers the value end at 3 stars, sharing the Marquisats beach with Splendid but with simpler rooms and a lake-view garden lounge instead of a pool. All five are inside the Annecy bus circuit (line 4 connects them in 25 minutes end-to-end).

Parent's take

The non-obvious bit about Annecy with kids: the public beaches close at 8pm but the lake doesn't. Hotel pools and adjacent pontoon swimming stay open till sunset, so the post-dinner cool-off is actually feasible here, unlike Med resorts where the pool clears at 7. Bring a picnic blanket and headtorch.

Why families love Rivage Hôtel & Spa Annecy

The family suite has a real two-room layout with a separate kids' bedroom. Breakfast is a proper French spread with yoghurts, hot chocolate and fresh pastries, ready from 7 AM. The indoor pool saves a rainy afternoon and the spa does kids' massages for ages 10+. Lake-view rooms are worth the premium — you open the curtains on mountains and water.

The Belle Époque palace at the north end of the Pâquier, with suites the size of small apartments, a seasonal outdoor pool and private lake access. The top-end option in Annecy proper, and a 12-minute walk to Old Town.

Why families love Impérial Palace

The suites are large enough that the kids' section has its own TV corner — a small thing that keeps everyone happy when one wakes at 6 AM. The seasonal pool runs May to September; before that, the lake beach 30 metres away takes over. Casino on site means the evening bar area isn't family-central after 9 PM, which doesn't matter if your kids are in bed. Breakfast in the Belle Époque room is worth waking up for.

Why families love Le Splendid Hotel Lac D'Annecy - Handwritten Collection

The junior suites fit a family of four with a king bed plus a pull-out that's genuinely big — not a token sofa bed. The breakfast buffet does proper omelettes on request, useful for picky eaters. You're a two-minute walk from the pedalo stand and three minutes from the first Old Town bakery. Parking is garage-style and slightly pricey; budget it in.

Hotel des Marquisats sits directly on the lake at Plage des Marquisats, with its own tennis court and a private members' club arrangement that gives hotel guests preferential booking. The 23 rooms are basic but the location is unbeatable, lake on one side, court on the other.

Why families love Hotel des Marquisats

For tennis families, this is the trade-off: the location and on-site court are perfect, but the hotel itself is dated and the rooms tight. Worth it if you want to roll out of bed onto the court at 8am or take the kids to the beach 30 metres away after a match. The hotel takes lesson bookings but the moniteurs are independent and pricing varies.

Hillside 4-star with the best lake panorama of the cluster, set in 1.5 hectares of wooded grounds. Outdoor pool overlooking the water, and a private 600-metre forest path down to a small private dock with a swim ladder. Spa includes a children's hour from 10 to 11am.

Why families love Les Trésoms Lake and Spa Resort

This is the one for families with bigger kids who can hike. The forest path down to the lake is gentle but the climb back up — about 80 vertical metres — is a real walk after a long swim. Pool is large with proper lap lanes and a separate kids zone. We did the spa kids hour twice and our 7-year-old loved the steam room more than expected. Restaurant gets pricey at 65 euros per adult so we ate in town.

💡Practical tips for Annecy lake stays with kids

  • 1Pack water shoes for the kids — Annecy beaches are sand-and-pebble, not pure sand. The pebbles around shallow entry can be sharp, especially after the May floods churn the lakebed.
  • 2Buy a Carte Annecy Plus pass at the tourist office for 18 euros per family. It bundles bus, lake-bus boats, and beach lockers for 3 days, which beats paying per ride.
  • 3Reserve hotel parking before you arrive. Annecy's old town parking is 28 euros per day in summer; hotels charge 14 to 22, but they sell out by mid-June.
  • 4Lake water is 19 degrees in June and 22 to 25 in July-August. June swims need a wetsuit for kids under 8 — most hotels rent rashguards on request for free.
  • 5Skip Annecy's Saturday market with kids. Genuinely too crowded after 10am. Hit the Sunday Veyrier market across the lake instead — same producers, half the people.
