Taormina Spa Hotels: Family Wellness Guide

5 family-friendly hotels with spa & wellness in Taormina . Handpicked for families who want the best.

Taormina has more five-star spa hotels per square kilometre than anywhere else in Sicily. That sounds great until you realise most of those spas are adults-only, or the pool they advertise is a 4m plunge pool with a 'no splashing' sign. We stayed at or toured eight Taormina spa hotels and picked the five that actually work for families — meaning parents can have a real massage while kids are welcomed in the pool or by separate family-friendly programmes. The picks below range from 429 EUR/night at UNA Capotaormina (spa as a paid afternoon option, pool included, kids welcome) to 1080 EUR/night at Atlantis Bay (full spa with parent-child slots, private beach for the kids).

Taormina's spa tradition comes from the wellness culture of Sicilian hilltop towns and the 19th-century European aristocracy who wintered here for the air. Most modern spa hotels occupy 18th and 19th-century villas on Via Pirandello and Via Bagnoli Croci, with hammams, thermal pools and massage treatments using Mediterranean ingredients (sea salt, lemon, almond, bergamot). The town centre is pedestrianised so you can walk between spa appointments, gelato stops and the Greek-Roman theatre. For families, the best Taormina spa days are the ones where kids stay in the hotel pool under a parent's eye while the other parent does a 45-minute massage, then you swap.

🧖Why a Taormina spa hotel works for families

The biggest question about any Taormina spa hotel is the kids' pool policy. Grand Hotel San Pietro has an indoor spa pool that welcomes children until 5pm and runs dedicated parent-child massage slots — the friendliest setup in town. NH Collection Taormina has a rooftop pool that is family all-day (adults-only spa downstairs). UNA Capotaormina allows kids to use the spa's indoor pool between 10am and 5pm. Palazzo Vecchio is stricter — the rooftop plunge pool is adults-only evenings, but bookable for private family slots. Atlantis Bay is adults-only evenings for spa + saltwater pool but the beach makes up for it.

Pricing in Taormina spa hotels breaks roughly into three bands. Mid-luxury (350-550 EUR/night) includes UNA Capotaormina and NH Collection Taormina — solid 4 or 5-star rooms, full spa access included or at 25-35 EUR supplement, family rooms available. Luxury (550-800 EUR/night) includes Grand Hotel San Pietro and Palazzo Vecchio — more attentive service, tastefully restored historic buildings, smaller spa facilities but better treatments. Ultra-luxury (1000+ EUR/night) is Atlantis Bay and its sister Mazzarò Sea Palace — five-star everything, private beach, honeymoon-first but family-tolerant. Any of these is booked 6 months ahead for July and August.

Parent's take

Pick your Taormina spa hotel by age of your kids. With toddlers, go UNA Capotaormina — the big pool, cliff-lift beach and daytime spa access work. With 6-10 year-olds, go NH Collection or Grand San Pietro — rooftop or indoor pool all day, walkable to gelato in town. With teens, Palazzo Vecchio or Atlantis Bay — they'll appreciate the history and the quiet, and won't mind the adults-only-evenings rules.

Why families love Grand Hotel San Pietro Taormina - Preferred Hotels & Resorts

This is the spa hotel in Taormina if you want a proper wellness day with kids in tow. The indoor pool area is large enough that children can use it without disrupting adult swimmers, and the spa runs parent-child massage slots in the mornings. Staff bring kids' welcome packs (bath duck, crayons, pasta menu for dinner). Downside: the hotel cascades down the cliff on multiple levels with stairs everywhere — tricky with a stroller. Book a room on the main reception level to avoid the hike.

Five-star seafront hotel sculpted into the cliffs of Mazzarò Bay with its own private pebble beach, saltwater pool set into the rocks, and a full spa. The cable car to Taormina old town is 5 minutes' walk. Family rooms exist but this hotel reads as honeymoon-first — expect quiet adults around the pool in July.

Why families love Atlantis Bay - The Leading Hotels of the World

Pricey but unforgettable. The Mazzarò cove is one of the prettiest beaches on the Sicilian east coast, and the hotel owns a big slice of it. The kids' pool is tiny — more of a paddling area — so this is not a hotel to pick if your children need pool space. Spa is adults-only from 6pm. What works for families: the beach, the food (three restaurants including a beach grill), and the shuttle that loops to the sister hotel Mazzarò Sea Palace for kids' activities. Under-3s stay free in existing bedding.

3#3 Best for Spa & Wellness
Rooftop plunge pool at Palazzo Vecchio Taormina
1/5

9.1

Five-star boutique spa hotel in a restored 15th-century palazzo just off Corso Umberto. Small spa with jacuzzi, sauna and treatment rooms, plus a rooftop plunge pool with views over the ancient theatre. 12 rooms only, very quiet. Family rooms exist but the hotel is stairs-heavy — not stroller-friendly.

Why families love Palazzo Vecchio Taormina

Compact spa in a historic setting. The sauna and jacuzzi are small but the staff were generous with booking us a private family 90-minute slot (45 EUR supplement) so we could use them without disturbing other guests. The plunge pool on the roof is adult-depth — our 8-year-old loved it but under-6s will need to be held. Breakfast is served in a frescoed salon and runs until 11am which suits slow holiday mornings. This is a hotel for families with older kids who appreciate quiet luxury, not for toddlers.

4#4 Best for Spa & Wellness

Why families love NH Collection Taormina

The rooftop pool is the reason to book. Heated, open from April to October, with a bar that serves kid-friendly mocktails. Our 7-year-old called it the best view of his life — not wrong, you see Mount Etna on one side and the Ionian on the other. The spa is adults-only but the main pool and sundeck welcome kids all day. Connecting family rooms are a godsend if you have two children. The walk to the town centre is flat — rare in Taormina — and takes 10 minutes with small legs.

5#5 Best for Spa & Wellness

A 1970s resort built into the cliff on the Capo Taormina headland, with a 25m main pool, a separate kids pool, and a private beach reached by a lift that runs 7am-9pm through the rock. Three restaurants, a shuttle into Taormina centre every 30 minutes, and free parking.

Why families love UNA Hotels Capotaormina

We stayed here four nights with two kids (6 and 9) and it became the easiest Sicilian hotel of the trip. The cliff lift to the beach is a kid-magnet — ours went up and down four times before we even swam. The 25m pool is rarely crowded because guests split between pool, beach, and spa. Downside: the building is 1970s concrete and the rooms feel tired. You're paying for the setup, not the decor.

💡Taormina spa tips from parents

  • 1Book your spa treatments at check-in, not in advance online. Taormina spa hotels often hold the best time slots (9-11am or 6-7pm, before or after peak pool hours) for in-house guests who ask at reception. You'll get better availability and sometimes a 10-15% room-charge discount versus online booking.
  • 2Check the kids' pool hours policy in writing before booking. Booking.com descriptions lump 'pool' and 'spa pool' together. Email the hotel and ask: what are the hours children can use which pool? If they can't answer clearly, pick another hotel. Grand San Pietro and NH Collection have clear family-friendly answers.
  • 3Budget 25-35 EUR extra per adult for spa day-pass access at most Taormina hotels. The 'full spa' often means access to thermal suite is a paid add-on even if the room is 600 EUR. Only Atlantis Bay and Palazzo Vecchio include full spa access in the room rate for certain suite categories.
  • 4Time massages around kids' meals, not activities. 90-minute treatments work best at 11am (kids in the pool with parent 2) or 3pm (post-lunch, before afternoon excursion). Morning is quieter in Taormina spas; late afternoon is when spa gets crowded with couples pre-dinner.
  • 5Skip the hotel dinner at least half the week and eat in town. Even 5-star Taormina spa hotels charge 80-120 EUR pp for dinner that's competent-but-not-special. Trattoria-level dinners on Corso Umberto are 35-50 EUR pp, served until 10:30pm, more memorable. Hotel breakfast and spa lunch are where the value sits.
