Best Family Hotels in Bergen with Bike Rental (2026)
5 family-friendly hotels with bike rental in Bergen . Handpicked for families who want the best.
Bergen rains 240 days a year, so any hotel in town has thought about wet weather. Bike rental is different. Some places hand you a key, others walk you out to a rack with helmets sized for kids, baby seats and a printed map of the harbour loop. We picked 5 Bergen hotels with real bike rental setups that work for families, not just cycling commuters. Two have bike tours included. Three sit a flat 5 minutes from the Bryggen wharf path. One is by the fjord edge if you want a longer day out.
Bergen is wooden, wet and rimmed by seven mountains. The old town is small enough to walk in an hour, which is why bikes turn the day into a real adventure for kids who would otherwise wilt. Locals ride in raincoats and nobody comments. The aquarium, the funicular and Bryggen all sit within a 15-minute pedal of each other.

Why Bergen Works for Families on Two Wheels
The flat waterfront loop is the family route. It starts at Bryggen, follows the harbour to the aquarium, doubles back along Strandkaien and ends at the lake in the centre. Total: 7km with one or two coffee stops. A 6-year-old on a balance bike can do it. A 9-year-old can do it twice and still want ice cream.
The hotels we picked all hand out helmets in three sizes plus child seats. Two also offer trailers. Ask the day before because the trailers go fast in July. Adult bikes are usually hybrid with 7 gears, which handles the slight rise from the harbour to the funicular base.
Weather is the question parents always ask. The honest answer: Bergen is wet, but the cycle path drains well and rain shells over the bike seats keep toddlers dry. Hotels lend full rain capes for adults too. If a downpour catches you mid-ride, every coffee shop in town has a porch you can park under for 20 minutes.
Parent's take
We rented for half a day from the hotel, did the aquarium loop and ate fish soup on the wharf. The kids slept hard that night. Renting from the hotel saved an hour of finding a bike shop and meant we could drop the bikes back at lunchtime without negotiation.

Why families love Opus XVI
We had two kids 7 and 10 and the staff loaded the bike trailer for us without being asked. The doorman knows the harbour loop by heart and sketched a kid-friendly version on the back of a Bergen map. Breakfast was the best of the trip with proper waffles and herring the kids actually tried. The rooms are heritage so soundproofing isn't perfect, pack white noise for nap-age kids.

Scandic Ørnen
Bergenhus, next to Bergen Station
Very Good
2,100 reviews
Four-star city tower next to Bergen Train Station with bike rental at reception, family rooms with bunk options, a sky bar overlooking the harbour and kids' meals at the Aquila restaurant. Five-minute walk to Torgallmenningen Square and the funicular base.
From
€642/night
Why families love Scandic Ørnen
The kids loved the lift up to the sky bar at sunset, even with just lemonade. Bike rental is dead simple, you sign one form and they wheel them out from the basement. The family room sleeps four properly with a bunk for the kids. Bonus: the train station is downstairs which is the easiest possible arrival with luggage.

Quality Hotel Edvard Grieg
Ytrebygda, near Flesland Airport
Very Good
1,800 reviews
Four-star Quality property 5 minutes from Bergen Airport and 20 minutes from the centre, with on-site bike rental, family rooms, kids' meals at the restaurant and a free shuttle to the airport. Suburban setting puts forest trails and the Sandsli cycle network within easy reach without traffic.
From
€392/night
Why families love Quality Hotel Edvard Grieg
Best value of our Bergen trip. We rented bikes for a morning and rode the forest loop behind the hotel, which was a proper green ride away from cars. The kids' meals at dinner were not the usual chicken nuggets, more like Norwegian fish cake with mashed potato. Downside is the 20-minute drive to the centre, fine if you have a rental car or use the airport bus.

Hotel Norge by Scandic
Bergenhus
Very Good
3,717 reviews
Hotel Norge by Scandic stands on Ole Bulls Plass in central Bergen, a five-storey design hotel with the largest indoor spa in the city centre. The wellness floor has separate male and female saunas plus a mixed lounge sauna for families.
From
€1206/night
Why families love Hotel Norge by Scandic
The family rooms here are properly sized with 36 square metres, a real sofa bed and a desk that doubles as a kids drawing zone. The spa hosts a 4 to 6 pm family-friendly window where kids in swimwear are welcome with a parent. Breakfast is the most lavish in Bergen but a tighter morning slot for kids under five would help.

Magic Hotel Bergen City Center
Bergenhus, 400m from Bryggen
Good
950 reviews
Four-star Radisson Individuals designer hotel 400 metres from Bryggen wharf with bike rental at reception, family rooms, kids' meal options and a quiet position one block back from the main harbour noise. Walking distance to the funicular, fish market and aquarium ferry stop.
From
€859/night
Why families love Magic Hotel Bergen City Center
Closest to Bryggen of the four-star options. Bikes are basic but they did the job for the harbour loop. The family room had a real bedroom door which made a difference when the kids went to sleep at 8pm. Kids' meals are pasta or fish, served fast. Designer touches mean great photos but the bathroom is small if you have toddler kit.
💡Practical Tips for Cycling in Bergen with Kids
- 1Book bikes the day before at reception. July weekends sell out by 9am and the better helmets go first. Mention child seats explicitly because not every hotel lists them on the rental sheet.
- 2Ride the harbour loop counter-clockwise. You get the aquarium first when kids are fresh, then the slight downhill back toward Bryggen and ice cream as the reward.
- 3Pack waterproof jackets even on sunny mornings. Bergen weather shifts in 30 minutes and the cycle path has no shelter between Strandkaien and the aquarium.
- 4Use the lake circuit (Lille Lungegårdsvannet) for younger riders. It is car-free, paved, flat and you can do laps while parents take turns with a coffee at the kiosk.
- 5Skip the Mt Floyen attempt with kids on bikes. The road is steep and shared with buses. Take the funicular up and walk down instead, or ride to the base and lock the bikes at the rack.
