Hotels with Playgrounds near Barcelona for Families (2026)

5 family-friendly hotels with playground in Barcelona . Handpicked for families who want the best.

Barcelona's city centre hotels are not built for outdoor play. The family resorts along the Costa del Maresme (45 minutes north) are. We found 5 hotels with proper playgrounds, outdoor play equipment, and kids' activity areas, from the AQUA Hotel Aquamarina in Santa Susanna with its giant splash park and mini-club, to the Novotel Barcelona City which is actually in the city and has an indoor play area plus rooftop pool. Prices range from 85 to 180 EUR/night for a family of 4 in July 2026. The beach resort hotels also offer water parks and kids' clubs alongside the playgrounds, so the kids are busy from breakfast to bedtime.

The Costa del Maresme is where Catalan families go in summer. It is less touristy than the Costa Brava further north, and cheaper. Trains from Barcelona Sants run every 30 minutes to Malgrat de Mar (5.80 EUR, 75 minutes). The resorts are self-contained: pool, playground, restaurant, and beach within 200 metres. You do not need a car, but renting one for day trips to Barcelona (Sagrada Familia, Parc Güell, the aquarium) makes the holiday more flexible. If you prefer staying in the city, the Novotel Barcelona City has a play area and is near the Ciutadella park, the best urban playground in Barcelona. For families wanting spa hotels in Lisbon, it is a 2-hour flight from Barcelona.

🏰Why the Barcelona coast is great for hotels with play areas

Playground hotels near Barcelona fall into two categories. The all-inclusive beach resorts (Hotel Papi, AQUA Aquamarina, Sorra Daurada, L'Azure) have outdoor playgrounds with climbing frames, swings, slides, and splash areas. These are fenced, supervised during the day, and suitable for ages 2 to 12. The playgrounds are part of a bigger kids' entertainment package that includes mini-clubs, evening shows, and game rooms. The resorts are designed so the kids are busy all day and the parents can read by the pool.

The city alternative is the Novotel Barcelona City in the Poblenou district. It has an indoor play area (the KIDSZONE with games and a giant teddy bear), a rooftop pool, and it is 15 minutes by metro from the Gothic Quarter. The play area is smaller than the resort playgrounds but it works if you want to combine Barcelona sightseeing with a hotel that keeps the kids entertained in the downtime. Ciutadella Park is 10 minutes on foot and has a larger public playground, a boating lake, and the Barcelona Zoo.

One practical tip that saves arguments: check the playground hours. Resort hotel playgrounds are open from about 9am to 7pm with supervision from the mini-club staff. Outside those hours the equipment is still accessible but unsupervised. The AQUA Aquamarina has the most structured programme with organised games from 10am to 1pm and 4pm to 6pm for ages 4 to 12.

Parent's take

We spent 5 nights at the AQUA Aquamarina and the playground was the first place the kids ran to every morning. By 9:15 they were already on the climbing frame with other kids from the hotel. The mini-club staff took over at 10am and we did not see them again until lunch. We read books by the pool for 3 hours straight. That never happens at home. The beach was a bonus but honestly, between the playground, the splash park, and the evening kids' disco, they barely noticed it was there.

Why families love L'Azure Hotel

L'Azure felt more like a resort than a hotel. The water park kept our kids busy for the entire first day, and they still wanted to go back every morning. The kids' club was well-organised with structured activities, not just a room with toys. Three restaurants meant we never ate the same thing twice. The rooms are large, modern, and soundproofed, which matters when you are on a family floor. The pool bar was a bonus since we could order drinks and snacks without leaving the sun loungers. At this price point, you expect quality, and L'Azure delivers. Worth the splurge if your budget allows it.

The Novotel sits on Avinguda Diagonal with a rooftop pool on the 19th floor and a dedicated kids pool alongside it. The lobby-level soft-play area keeps under-8s busy with foam blocks and a mini slide, while the game room has table football and an arcade machine. Two kids under 16 stay free including the breakfast buffet, which has a child-height station with cereals, pancakes, and fruit.

Why families love Novotel Barcelona City

We stayed four nights in October and the game room was worth its weight in gold on the two rainy afternoons. The rooftop pool was closed for the season, but the kids did not care because the play area was open until 9pm. The family room fit our two kids (5 and 8) comfortably with a sofa bed, and the breakfast buffet had enough variety that nobody complained. Location is a 10-minute metro ride from the Gothic Quarter, which felt like the right balance between city access and quiet evenings.

Why families love AQUA Hotel Aquamarina & Spa

The AQUA Aquamarina was our pick because it had the most complete package: water park, indoor pool, kids' club, and games room. Our 8-year-old spent two solid hours in the water park every morning, then switched to the games room after lunch. The indoor pool was a lifesaver on the one cloudy day we had. The kids' club runs activities for ages 4 to 12, which freed us up for the spa. Two restaurants on-site meant we barely left the hotel grounds. Santa Susanna itself is quiet and pedestrian-friendly, which suited us perfectly.

Hotel Papi sits right on Avenida Barcelona in Malgrat de Mar, a 2-minute walk from the beach. The on-site water park has slides designed for kids under 10, a splash pool with a water mushroom that dumps periodically, and water cannons around the edges. There are two saltwater pools (one for adults, one for kids) plus two outdoor jacuzzis.

Why families love Hotel Papi

We booked Hotel Papi because it was the cheapest option with actual water slides, and it overdelivered. The kids' club kept our 5-year-old busy every morning while we read by the adult pool. The splash zone is small but our 8-year-old went down those slides about 40 times a day without a queue. Half-board was worth it since the buffet had a dedicated kids' section with nuggets, pasta, and fruit. The rooms are basic but clean, and the beach is genuinely 2 minutes away.

5#5 Best for Playground

Hotel Sorra Daurada Splash is a beachfront 4-star in Malgrat de Mar with an on-site water park featuring multiple water slides, a kids' pool, and a splash zone. The hotel also runs a kids' club, has a games room with board games, and outdoor play equipment. It sits directly on the Passeig Maritim, meaning the beach is across the road.

Why families love Hotel Sorra Daurada Splash

We chose Sorra Daurada for the water park and beachfront combo. The slides are bigger than Hotel Papi's, which suited our 9-year-old better. There are two different slide types plus a splash bucket that dumps water every few minutes, and the kids never tired of it. The kids' club ran craft sessions and games most afternoons. The beach is literally across the promenade. Rooms are decent for a 4-star, all with balconies. The main downside is the breakfast buffet, which is standard but not exciting. At 183 EUR per night, it is mid-range for the area.

💡How to pick a family hotel with a playground near Barcelona

  • 1The resort hotels (Hotel Papi, AQUA Aquamarina, Sorra Daurada, L'Azure) are 45-60 minutes from Barcelona airport by taxi or train. Book a transfer in advance during peak season because taxis from El Prat are expensive (90+ EUR). The Renfe train to Malgrat de Mar costs 5.80 EUR per adult.
  • 2Playground supervision is included in the room rate at all 4 resort hotels. The mini-club runs from 10am to 1pm and 4pm to 6pm for ages 4-12. Under-4s need a parent present at the playground. L'Azure has the best toddler area with soft play equipment.
  • 3The Novotel Barcelona City is the only option if you want both Barcelona sightseeing and a hotel play area. The indoor KIDSZONE has games, colouring, and a giant teddy bear. Kids under 16 stay and eat breakfast free. The rooftop pool is small but has city views.
  • 4If you are choosing between resort hotels: the AQUA Aquamarina has the largest playground with the most structured programme. Hotel Sorra Daurada Splash has the best water playground (splash park with slides). L'Azure has the most activities overall including a game room with arcade machines.
  • 5All resort hotels include half-board or full-board options, which simplifies family meals. A family of 4 on half-board adds about 30-40 EUR/night to the room rate, but saves you the hassle and expense of restaurant dining with tired kids. For a cooler alternative, Vienna also has excellent playground hotels with both indoor and outdoor play areas.
