Mallorca in June: 7-day family itinerary with kids
A day-by-day plan for enjoying the island with children in early summer
Seven days in Mallorca in June gives your family the best of the island before the peak-season crowds arrive. Flights from London, Manchester or Birmingham take just over two hours with Ryanair, easyJet or Jet2, and the time difference is only one hour ahead of the UK. Temperatures range from 18 °C in the morning to 28 °C in the afternoon, the sea reaches a swimmable 22 °C, and you can expect barely 2 rainy days all month. This itinerary covers Palma's old town and cathedral, the vintage Sóller railway through the Tramuntana mountains, the vast shallow sands of Playa de Muro in the north, and the spectacular Drach Caves on the east coast. June works brilliantly for British families: it falls within half-term for some schools (late May into early June) and the first couple of weeks before English and Welsh schools break up for summer. Car hire is essential for this trip and costs roughly 30-50 EUR per day (around £25-42) in June. Distances are short, rarely more than 45 minutes, and roads are well maintained with clear signposting. The plan is designed for two adults and two children aged 6-10, with a pace that leaves free time each afternoon for the hotel pool or a quiet lie-down. All prices are in euros. At current rates, 1 EUR is roughly £0.85. You will find verified opening times, up-to-date prices and family-friendly restaurant suggestions for each day.
🌟 Trip highlights

Drach Caves: underground lake, classical music concert on boats and stalactites that fascinate children of all ages
Palma Aquarium: sharks, rays and jellyfish up close, with interactive activities for ages 4-12
🏰 Exploring Palma
Culture and old town

Mallorca Cathedral (La Seu)
Start with the Gothic cathedral overlooking the seafront. Children are wowed by the enormous rose window and Gaudí's stained glass. Afterwards, head down to Parc de la Mar so the kids can run around the reflecting pool with the cathedral as a backdrop.
Palma Old Town
Wander the narrow streets of the historic centre: Plaça Major, Ca'n Joan de s'Aigo for hot chocolate and an ensaimada pastry. Children love the shaded squares and little fountains tucked into alleyways.
Lunch at Mercat de l'Olivar
This covered market offers fresh fish, tapas and fruit. Let the children pick what catches their eye at the stalls. Lively atmosphere and reasonable prices.
Can Pere Antoni beach or hotel pool
A 10-minute walk from the cathedral, this urban beach lets the kids swim while you enjoy views of La Seu. Alternatively, head back to the hotel pool for a quieter afternoon.
🚂 Sóller Railway and Port de Sóller
Mountain excursion and seaside

Vintage Palma-Sóller railway
The 1912 wooden train passes through 13 tunnels and alongside orange groves in the Serra de Tramuntana. The journey takes about an hour and children love the open windows and mountain scenery. Book tickets online at trendesoller.com.
Tram from Sóller to Port de Sóller
The orange tram trundles down to the port in 15 minutes. Children stand on the rear platform for the best view. It is the highlight of the day for most kids.
Lunch and beach at Port de Sóller
The horseshoe bay of Port de Sóller has a sheltered beach perfect for children. The water is calm and shallow at the shore. Have lunch at one of the seafront restaurants.
Swimming and harbour walk
After lunch, let the children splash about while you relax on the beach. Take a wander along the harbour in the late afternoon. Colourful fishing boats and a small lighthouse at the end of the jetty.
🏖️ Playa de Muro and Alcúdia
Family beach day

Drive to Alcúdia
Head north along the motorway (about 45 min from Palma). The route is straightforward and well signposted. Park at the Playa de Muro car park (sector 1 or 2).
Playa de Muro: swimming and sandcastles
This enormous stretch of fine white sand is a paradise for families. The turquoise water stays knee-deep for about 200 metres out, so children can wade and splash in complete safety. Clean sand and dunes behind the beach provide natural shade.
Lunch at a beach chiringuito
The chiringuitos (beach bars) along Playa de Muro serve paella, grilled fish and children's menus. Relaxed atmosphere with your feet practically in the sand.
Alcúdia Old Town
If the children still have energy, make a detour to the walled old town of Alcúdia (10 min drive). Medieval ramparts open to walkers, pretty lanes and ice cream shops. On Tuesdays and Sundays there is a large market.
🦇 Drach Caves and the east coast
Underground adventure and beach

Drive to Porto Cristo
Head to the east coast of Mallorca (about 1 hour from Palma, 30 min from Alcúdia). Porto Cristo is a pretty fishing port and the starting point for the caves.
Cuevas del Drach (Drach Caves)
The guided tour lasts about an hour and descends 25 metres underground. The highlight is a classical music concert played on boats on Lake Martel, the largest underground lake in Europe. The stalactites and stalagmites fascinate even the youngest visitors. The tour finishes with a boat ride across the lake.
Lunch in Porto Cristo
Porto Cristo harbour has several restaurants with terraces on the quayside. Fresh fish, paella and children's menus available.
Porto Cristo beach or Cala Millor
Two options: the small beach at Porto Cristo (5 min walk from the harbour) or Cala Millor (15 min drive), which is larger and better equipped. Both suit children with a gentle slope into the water.
🐠 Palma Aquarium and Playa de Palma
Relaxation and marine life

Palma Aquarium
The aquarium is home to over 700 marine species across 55 tanks. Children easily spend 2-3 hours between the shark tunnel, the touch pool and the jellyfish displays. An outdoor play area rounds off the visit for younger ones.
Lunch at the aquarium cafe or Playa de Palma
The aquarium cafe has simple options for children. Alternatively, Playa de Palma is 5 minutes' drive away with plenty of seafront restaurants.
Playa de Palma: swim and sunbathe
This long sandy beach has all the facilities: showers, toilets, parasol hire, children's play areas. The water in June is calm and shallow, ideal for young swimmers. The promenade has a cycle path running alongside it.
Cycle ride along the seafront
Hire bikes (including children's bikes and toddler seats) to ride along Playa de Palma to Can Pastilla. The cycle path is flat and safe.
⛰️ Valldemossa and the Tramuntana
Mountain village and nature

Drive to Valldemossa
The road from Palma winds through spectacular mountain scenery (about 30 min). The bends are wide and well maintained. Children enjoy the dramatic views over the sea below.
Valldemossa village
Wander the stone lanes of this hilltop village at 400 metres altitude. The air is cool and scented with bougainvillea. Children run happily through the pedestrianised streets. Try a coca de patata, the local speciality (a sweet pastry made with potato and icing sugar).
Lunch in Valldemossa or Deià
Several restaurants with panoramic terraces overlooking the valley. Traditional Mallorcan cooking. If you prefer, continue to Deià (15 min drive) for an even wilder setting.
Cala Deià or Sóller beach
Cala Deià is a small pebble cove reached by a footpath (15 min walk, manageable for children aged 5 and over). The water is crystal clear. Easier alternative: head down to Port de Sóller beach, which is more suitable for younger children.
☀️ Final beach and departure
Relaxation and memories

Local market or last-minute shopping
Depending on the day of the week, visit a local market for souvenirs: sobrasada cured sausage, flor de sal sea salt, sugar-coated almonds. Mercat de Santa Catalina in Palma is open every day except Sunday.
Last swim
Choose between Es Trenc (40 min south of Palma), Mallorca's wildest beach with turquoise water, or Illetes (15 min from Palma) if you want to save time before the flight. Both are family-friendly.
Last Mallorcan lunch
One final family meal looking out to sea. Paella, tumbet (Mallorcan ratatouille) or frit mallorquí to round off the week in style.
Return and airport transfer
Drop off the hire car and head to Palma airport. The airport is 15 minutes from central Palma. Allow time for the car return process.
🧭 Practical info
Getting around
Car hire is essential for this itinerary. Budget 30-50 EUR/day (£25-42) in June for a family car with child seats. Book ahead on comparison sites (check rentalcars.com). Roads are well maintained and sat-nav on your phone is fine. TIB buses cover the island but timetables limit flexibility with children. The Sóller train is a day trip in itself, not everyday transport. Your UK driving licence is valid in Spain.
Booking tips
Book the Sóller train at trendesoller.com at least 3 days ahead (seats sell out fast in June). For the Drach Caves, buying on the day is fine in early June, but book online for the second half of the month. Palma Aquarium offers online discounts: compare palmaaquarium.com and resellers. For flights, Ryanair and easyJet from Stansted, Gatwick or Manchester often have the best fares if booked 6-8 weeks ahead.
