Pet Friendly Family Hotels in Dar es Salaam

2 family-friendly hotels with pet friendly in Dar es Salaam . Handpicked for families who want the best.

Two pet friendly properties in Dar es Salaam accept animals, and both are apartment-style rather than hotels, which is not a coincidence. Ansdel Apartments on Silvesta Street gives each unit a kitchenette, a balcony, a washing machine and free on-site private parking, eleven kilometres from Tanzania National Stadium and nine from the Village Museum. Fairview Luxury Apartments in the PSPF Twin Towers on Mission Street, Mchafukoge, pairs pet acceptance with a rooftop swimming pool, a restaurant and a 24 hour front desk, seventeen minutes' walk from the National Museum and House of Culture. Neither publishes weight limits or fees.

Dar es Salaam is not a city built around dogs on leads, and it pays to know that before arriving. There is little in the way of formal parks, the coast road at Oyster Bay and the open ground near Coco Beach are where people actually walk in the evening, and the heat means that anything before seven in the morning or after five in the afternoon is the only sensible window. Residential neighbourhoods such as Mikocheni, Mchafukoge and the streets around Silvesta Street are calmer than the arteries, with dukas, shade trees and enough space to walk a dog without crossing a main road.

๐Ÿ•Why Dar es Salaam is Great for Hotels with Pet Friendly

The daily logistics separate these two clearly. Ansdel Apartments gives you family rooms with kitchenette, air conditioning, a washing machine, a microwave, a dining table and a private balcony, plus free private parking on site, which matters when a pet, a pram and a hire car all need to arrive at once. Fairview Luxury Apartments offers aparthotel rooms with balconies, terraces, kitchenettes and air conditioning, plus a restaurant serving African, Indian, Mediterranean and seafood menus, a casino and free on-site private parking, nine kilometres from Julius Nyerere International Airport. Ansdel is twelve kilometres from the same airport, and both are far enough from the Kivukoni gridlock to make an early flight manageable.

By age the two properties do different jobs. With a baby or toddler, Ansdel is the stronger booking: the washing machine, the kitchenette and the quiet residential street around Silvesta Street solve the three problems that a pet and a small child create together. With children of primary age, Fairview earns its place because the rooftop pool gives them somewhere to burn an afternoon and the National Museum and House of Culture is a seventeen minute walk away, so the day does not depend on a car. With teenagers, Fairview again, since the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre area and the central grid put shops and food within reach on foot.

The value comparison is genuinely close and rests on what you need the extra space for. Fairview holds 8.6 from 171 reviews with a rooftop pool, a full restaurant, a 24 hour front desk and a location rated 8.9 by recent guests. Ansdel holds 9.8 but from only 6 reviews, which is far too small a sample to treat as a ranking, and it offers no pool, no restaurant and no reception around the clock. The honest advice is to book Ansdel for space, laundry and quiet on a longer stay, and Fairview when you want facilities and a central address, and in both cases to confirm the pet policy, any fee and any size limit in writing first.

Parent's take

Fairview worked because the lift went straight from the car park to the apartment door with the dog, the bags and a sleeping four year old in one trip. We walked at half past six each evening around Mchafukoge while it cooled, came back up to the rooftop pool, and cooked in the kitchenette rather than negotiating a restaurant with an animal tied up outside. The nine year old counted ships in the harbour from the balcony until it went dark.

Why families love Ansdel Apartments

Families staying here get the laundry problem solved, which after a week of sand from the northern beaches is worth more than a concierge. The pet-friendly policy and the quiet residential street make it one of only two options in the city for families travelling with an animal. Recent guests rate the location 9.2. There is no pool, no restaurant and no round-the-clock reception, so late arrivals need warning ahead.

A rooftop swimming pool above the PSPF Twin Towers on Mission Street, paired with a pet-friendly policy, makes this Mchafukoge aparthotel unusual on both counts. Rooms are spacious with balconies or terraces, air conditioning, a kitchenette and a private bathroom. There is a restaurant running African, Chinese, Indian, Mediterranean and seafood menus, a casino, a 24 hour front desk and free on-site private parking. The National Museum is a seventeen minute walk.

Why families love Fairview Luxury Apartments

Families staying here get pool, kitchen and museums without a car, which is rare this close to the centre. The rooftop is best used from late afternoon, since there is little shade at midday. Pets are accepted, making this one of only two such options in Dar es Salaam. Recent guests rate the location 8.9 and the views 9.5. The on-site casino means the lobby is not always quiet late.

๐Ÿ’กTips for Choosing a Hotel with Pet Friendly in Dar es Salaam

  • 1Get the pet policy in writing before you pay. Neither Ansdel Apartments nor Fairview Luxury Apartments publishes a weight limit, a species restriction or a cleaning fee, and both are apartment properties where rules can vary by unit.
  • 2Walk the dog before seven in the morning or after five in the afternoon. Midday heat and humidity in Dar es Salaam are hard on animals, and shade along Mission Street and Silvesta Street is patchy.
  • 3Book Ansdel if you are staying more than a few nights. The in-unit washing machine and kitchenette handle the combination of sand, pet hair and small children better than any hotel service will.
  • 4Check the Tanzanian import paperwork months ahead. Bringing an animal into the country requires health documentation that no hotel will help you with once you have landed.
  • 5Choose Fairview if you want facilities without a car. The rooftop pool, the on-site restaurant and a seventeen minute walk to the National Museum and House of Culture mean whole days without driving.
